Chennai: Tamil Nadu Directorate of Matriculation Schools has issued a warning while Nandakumar, President of Private Schools Association, has said that private schools will not function in Tamil Nadu from tomorrow.

Srimathi a student from Cuddalore district, was studying 12th standard in a private matric higher secondary school at Kaniyamoor near Chinna Salem, Kallakurichi district.

For the past few months, he used to stay in the hostel and visit his parents during the school holidays. In this case, on July 13, around 5 am in the morning, the hostel guard who saw the student being beaten up in the school hostel premises informed the school administration.

After this, the student was taken to the hospital. The doctors who examined the student said that she had already died. It is also said that the student committed suicide by jumping from the second floor of the school hostel. Following this, the Chinnasalem police department is investigating and registering a case regarding the student’s death.

The dead body of the student was sent to Kallakurichi Government Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. But the relatives of the student blocked the road near the school demanding justice for the death of the student after refusing to buy the body.

The protestors involved in the road blockade tried to enter the school and start the demonstration. The protest soon turned into a riot and the relatives of the student pelted stones at the police vehicle. The police resorted to batons to control the protesters.

Meanwhile, District Collector Sridhar said that prohibitory order 144 has been issued in Kallakurichi taluka, Chinna Salem and Nainar Palayam to control the situation. Also, the secretary of the school, Shanti, had released a video saying that Srimathi’s mother, Ms. Selvi, should take full responsibility for the incident of violence in the school

In this case, Nandakumar, the president of Aniyar Schools Association, has said that private schools will not operate in Tamil Nadu from tomorrow, condemning the incident of violence in the Kaniyamur private school. He said that private school teachers and administrators have decided to wear black patches and submit a petition to the District Collector.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Matriculation Schools has warned that no prior permission has been obtained regarding the holiday for private schools tomorrow, and stern action will be taken if the holiday is violated. It has been informed that the concerned District Principal Education Officers will take action if holidays are given to private schools.
